Dunbar Fall Festival Fundraising Event Brings Attention to Mesothelioma

Fall festivalIt’s once again time for the Dunbar Community Fest in Dunbar, PA, my home town and the town where my parents have lived for their whole lives.  The Fest is a wonderful event featuring a 5k walk and run, pageant, pet show, food, music, and much more!  Last year, we began doing a basket raffle to benefit the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, and we will be continuing that this year with a couple of added elements.

Many businesses, family members, and friends have donated items this year including a home safety basket, home decorations, purses and tote bags, and gift cards, just to name a few.  We were also fortunate to have Nemacolin Woodlands Resort donate a wonderful getaway package that we are selling chances on.

We thought that it would be a great thing for members of the community to support my Dad in a more tangible way.  To that end, we will be selling “Team Don” t-shirts, sponsored by local businesses and organizations.  All proceeds from these three endeavors will go to benefit The Meso Foundation which has become a champion for us, and we hold them so close to our hearts.

We are blessed to have the support of our communities helping to raise funds for mesothelioma research and we appreciate them more than they can know.  As The Meso Foundation says, “Believe in a Cure!” Funding for mesothelioma research and advocacy is definitely in need.  If you are interested in helping out, you can make a donation directly through my family’s fundraising page at www.curemeso.com/fundraising/smitley, or if you’re interested in planning an event, let me know!  I’d be happy to help and put you in touch with the experts!
